HIST 3335 - African American History, 1865 to Present3 Class Hours 0 Laboratory Hours 3 Credit Hours Prerequisite: HIST 2111 or HIST 2112. A history of African Americans in the United States since emancipation. The course emphasizes the struggles waged by African Americans to achieve racial equality and full citizenship in the United States, and the social, cultural, political, and economic forces that have shaped the African American community. Special attention is given to the men and women who led the struggle, the ideas and ideals which inspired and dominated each phase of the struggle, and the movements and institutions which were created in the process.
