BISM 8460 - Management Support Systems3 Credit Hours 3 Class Hours 0 Laboratory Hours Prerequisites: Admission to the Coles MBA or MAcc program, and BISM 2100 or equivalent, or microcomputer proficiency. This course is designed to explore the business use of decision support systems (DSS) by managers and other knowledge workers and the intersection of these increasingly popular systems with the Internet and digital knowledge resources. Topics include managerial support and decision-making, knowledge management, executive decision support, artificial intelligence and group decision-making. The course will compare and contrast the role of technological and human management support systems and the potential synergy between the two. Among the practical questions taken up in the course are: How can managers become more deliberate about their own decision making and problem solving capacity? How do effective managers build knowledge-creating organizations that leverage and retain their innovative organizational members? How are effective decision support systems developed and implemented for management support. Instructional methods include lecture, group discussion, case analyses, and small group presentations.
