4.7 - Health Promotion and Wellness

The mission of Health Promotion and Wellness is to improve the balance of the intellectual, emotional, physical, social, environmental, and spiritual development of students through awareness and education. Health Promotion and Wellness strives to provide an environment supportive of positive health practices.

Health Promotion and Wellness improves the balance of the intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and occupational development of students through awareness and education. Health Promotion and Wellness promotes student health through four signature program areas, including:

  • Nutrition Services where students can meet with a registered dietitian or attend a cooking demonstration class to learn how to prepare nutrition budget friendly meals.
  • Peer Health Outreach and Wellness Leaders (OWLs) are paid student assistants who are trained and have obtained national certification in developing, implementing, and evaluating fun interactive wellness programs for fellow students.
  • Health education programs are provided to meet the health needs of students. Program Focus may include stress management, alcohol awareness, healthy relationships, sexual health, nutrition, cooking demonstrations, body image, CPR/AED/first aid, physical activity, and general wellness.
  • Mental health and suicide prevention training are a priority and available to students, faculty, and staff. Three training courses are available including Kognito, Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR), and Mental Health First Aid. Health communication messages that help individuals and groups understand health and wellness are created and shared with the campus community using print publications, web, social media, video, and audio presentations.  More information about Health, Promotion, and Wellness at KSU is available at https://www.kennesaw.edu/student-affairs/wellbeing/wellness/index.php
