NURS 8875 - Nurse Educator Practicum III

1 Class Hours 3 Laboratory Hours 4 Credit Hours
Prerequisite: NURS 8874.
This course is the capstone of the practicum experience. It is designed to provide students with the opportunity to synthesize elements of their acquired knowledge and skills in the implementation of a variety education models in nursing education settings. Settings will be selected to further develop students’ knowledge and skills as nurse educators. Competence in advanced nursing education is an expectation. New Description: This course is the capstone of the practicum experience. It is designed to provide students with the opportunity to synthesize elements of their acquired knowledge and skills in the implementation of clinical simulation in nursing education under the guidance of a preceptor. Students will study standards emphasizing debriefing and evaluation in clinical simulation in settings that further develop students’ knowledge and skills as nurse educators. Competence in advanced nursing education is an expectation with proficiency in best practice standards in simulation. Additional Objectives: 5. Facilitate the individually developed simulation event (from previous coursework) using simulation standards of best practice, with structured debriefing for a selected group of nursing students. 6. Evaluate simulation event from the perspective of student learning outcomes, and effectiveness of simulation plan. 7. Complete an e-portfolio website containing course work, reflection, projects, and simulation case building from three semesters.
